I have just bought a 91 ford explorer 4 door 5 speed
i bought it cuz i thought it would be an easy fix but idk now
i bought it for 200 cuz it was stuck in 4 low
its got the push botton 4x4
both the lights are on
wen u push the 4x4 botton nothing happens wen u push the 4 low botton nothing happens
but wen u push the clutch in and push the 4 low botton i hear a click noise coming from the back
its coming from a box in the rear drivers side panel by the jack
it clicks but nothing happens
someone told me that was bad and another said that it was the motor on the tranfer case i really just want to get it out of 4 low
if i can get it into 4 hi or just 2 wheel ill be happy
can you help me out im not a ford person so i know nothing about them
if u know wat i could do i would really appriciate the help
Thank You

The transfer case shift computer blocks the shift between L and H unless you have the clutch pressed in, so that's why you have to push in the clutch to get the computer to respond.
With that said, your symptoms are pretty consistent with a dirty/stuck/old shift motor. You might try to pull it apart and clean it/fix it (we have some information along those lines in the useful threads forum, I think).
In the meantime, just to get it into 2H, remove the shift motor and use a pair of pliers to rotate the shaft until it points to 2H.
