:fire: WHERE can I look to troubleshoot and FIX this problem? My washer pump was working fine until we had our first snowstorm of the year last month. Since then, it hasn't worked AT ALL and when it snows, my windsheild becomes a GIANT SALTCAKE!! :fire: WHAT do I need to look to resolve this? A fuse? I checked the fuses located on the side of the dashboard and it's nothing is burned out. Is it relays? If so, WHERE IS IT? Can someone HELP ME PLEASE? :fire: :fire: :fire:

Does the washer pump make any noise when you press the washer button?
I would located the pump on the washer fluid reservoir and gently tap it a few times to see if you can loosen it up. Sometimes electrical motors get stuck and just need a little bump to get them working again. If this doesn't work then I would get a meter and check for power at the pump (obviously it will only read power when the washer button is pressed). I only have a 1st gen so I can't help beyond that... I have heard problems with the multi-function switch can also be a factor. Does the rear washer work?

Search on "washer pump" and you'll get a bunch of hits such as: Washer problem

I'll try bumping the pump this afternoon to see if that'll do the trick. The rear washer doesn't work at all either. Also, no, the pump doesn't make any noise when I press the button.

I think in 98 and up the front and rear run off the same pump

Check the fuses by the drivers door. I had that happen when I pressed the button whilst it was frozen and blew the fuse.

Try simply disconnecting and reconnecting the connector. I pulled mine all apart and put 12V to it . It spun real nice in the basement. Put it back in the car and nothing. After much futsing around it was just a goopy connector.

only when it snows?? if so check and make sure your fluid is rated for colder weather if not it's freezing in the holder.

Does the wiper move when you hit the switch? If not, it may just be your multi-switch has gone/is going bad.

No, it doesn't work AT ALL in ANY weather. About a year ago, it stopped working for a while and then it started working all of a sudden. Just before this January snow storm, it worked fine and then all of a sudden again, it stopped working. The fluid that's in there is rated for sub zero weather.

Yes, the wiper moves as if fluid is coming out.

Mine wasn't working, and then I checked fuse.. fuse was bad. But, you say you already checked the fuse and it's good.. so, I can't offer any advice, sorry.

I want to thanks you guys (and all the others) for describing the location of the washer and fog lamp relays so well. I have had an ongoing problem with fog lights, which I was able to fix. Didn't know the washer relays were in same place on my '99 Eddie

Relay Part Numbers, Read Below:

Hello,

I had the same problem till half an hour ago, and was able to fix my '99 XLT's washer pump for the front thanks to the info on this here best and most useful site I've seen for these trucks. Here's some info for anyone looking to acquire the relays BEFORE getting all cut trying to access them to look up the part numbers.

Basically, there are six (6) relays in the compartment at the bottom of the air filter housing (and just the top of the filter housing [a.k.a. airbox] has to be removed to access/replace relays by the way, not the whole thing as some described). The part numbers, as printed on the relays, are:

F57B-14B192-AA (4 smaller relays)
F0AB-14B192-AA (2 bigger relays)

I pulled all of them out, cleaned all connectors, slightly bent some pins and covered them with spark-plug petroleum-like gelly for better conductivity, but it looks like I will have to dive in there again to change one, because now that my front/rear washer pump is working as good as before, I lost my fog lamps (not that I use them, but I like everything to work). Therefore, a piece of advice: buy at least one of the small relays and replace the ******* right away! :D

I hope this helps someone to find the proper relays for cheap before starting the procedure, and not racing to Ford after gutting their X and paying $20-40 for a cheap piece of plastic Ford can't even make right (now that I know what to look for, I located a few of these used for $1 each - as long as they work, it's all good for me) ;) Good luck!

Hey

have you tried your right or left turn signal the same time you hit the pump switch? I thought i had a bad pump cleaned the plug and contacts on the pump and that worked for a while. Then it quit working again showed it was getting some power so i bought a new pump not that pricey less than 20 bucks it worked for a while then quit. Then one day i was pressing the pump switch on the stalk and accidently turn on the right blinker and the pump started working. And now when i want to wash the windows i need to indicate a right turn and it works fine. Until that goes out then I will replace the indicator stalk. Give that a try
