My 98 xlt with the 5R55E is acting kinda funny....When I put it in reverse(after sitting overnight in a semi cold garage) it takes a long time to go in gear...Then when I go into drive it takes a long time also (I will say this goes away when it gets warmed up) Is this just a quirk with a tranny with 104,000 on it??... Another thing is that sometimes when I am comming to a stop it seems to jerk into the lower gear. This doesn't happen all the time though. I have 104,000 on it. I got it at 36,000 and have had it complety flushed and filter change at 76,000 (this is the only fluid change I know of). I was looking at the fluid and it dosen't look too bad and the level is fine (I am still going to change the filter and fluid). I only do highway driving with it. GOD I DON'T NEED A TRANNY TO GO RIGHT NOW...

When you change the filter

Retighten the valve body bolts. Many, including myself, hace found these loose. They tighten to 7-8 ft-lb which is only a good hand twist. There have been many reports of these gaskets blowing out and this could be the cause. Check to see if any of the electrical solenoids are loose. There is a TSB abut the EPC solenoid backing out because the bracket cracks. You definitely have some valve body problem. If the fluid is relatively clean your problems can be corrected without removal of the transmission.
