I have a 96XLT that I want to upgrade the sound system in. The first question I have is will my rear seat controls still wirk with an after market system? Any stereo guru's have a hot setup i can install. I would like to hear what some of you have installed in your explorers. Thanks in advance.

I don't think the rear controls will work. You might be able to reloate the stock deck and rig up some wiring system but it would be a real pain.

I've got Orion XTR 6.5 components up front and Boston Acoustics 5x7s in the rear powered by an Orion XTR 400.4. Really loud and really clear. It could use a sub though. Also and Eclpise tape deck with a 12 cd changer mounted in the console.

in my 92' i have 4 pioneer 6x8s a jvc 12 disc cd changer a panasonic cqdf-88 cd deck (the one that changes colors) 2 infinity kappa perfect 12" subs powered by a 1000w infinity digital amp, all together it cost about 2000 with wires and everything, and allot of time, but it sounds really good and clean i had a 15" solo baric and it was slow and drowned out everything so i got rid of it.
and thats about it till this summer

Hey 96XLT, I have a post in this forum titled "System Installed" about what I had done. Some of it may be useful and some of it may be way too much than what you wanted to do. But it may give you some ideas.

Hey Godfather, I was wondering how did you mount your 6 1/2's? I've been told that I can't put that size in my doors. Thanks for the help.

I made brackets out of particle board. I took the stock metal bracket and traced it on particle board, the took the 6.5 and traced it. Then cut it out and line the screw holes up, drill, and you're all set. Seal any cracks up with calk. I can hear some air moving when a lot of bass goes through them.
