I want to buy 22's for my 2002 XLT. What Size Should the Tires be?

The last time I tried to put rims on it ended up like this and they were huge 305 45 tires, I couldnt even drive they were completely rubbing.

I got Toyo open country 305/40/22's on my 02 Explorer Limited with no lift and the only time they rub is when I try and make a sharp turn.
