IAC Help

I cleaned my IAC last night and took off the silver cap to clean inside there. Well it look like a big amount of built up dirt but it was some kind of spongey thing. Is the sponge thing important? I took it out thinking it was caked up dirt.

It's a filter. With it removed you'll be sucking crud into the motor.

crap. I have one of those small K&N filter things can I remove the cap and put that on for now?

you can try it. hell a loose cotton ball could work.
