G'day all, first post! Cutting to the chase, my wife has an Australian 2005 Ford Explorer which is totally stock. They were built 2004 in the USA right hand drive, but complianced in Australia as a 2005 model (you probably already knew that).

Its a family car, but at the same time I use it in my Mustang restoration business (www.bosskraft.com) and tow vehicles with it. I'd like to 'spice it up' a little without going to great expense, or to throwing loads of time into it. Are there simple computer/throttle body upgrades that you'd recommend? I have Google'd a bit, but there is a tonne of stuff out there and I am sure half of it is ****, so I'd like the truth of the matter from people who've done it and are happy with it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Regards Sean

because it is a 2004 year, it is no longer viable for the mustang throttle bodys (as the mustang's are cable opperated, and the explorers electric after 2003). send james at hensonperformance.com an email and he should be able to get you set up with a tuner + custom tunes.. the tune he provided me is one of my favorite mods. Smoother shifts, imediate throttle response.. totaly worth it in my book. I guess i could call myself the unofficial bolt on king of these forums, if its a bolt on, ive done it. Here are some of the mods that are possible and easy, and some of them more time consuming.

JBA Shorty headers (combined with my tune, was a night and day difference, 6 hours to install)

K&N Cold air intake
Magnaflow catback exhaust kit
GMS 65,000 volt ignition coils (added a startling amount of low end torque)
Steeda underdrive pulleys + Electric fan (all power gain noticed in the high end, might have over heating issues in hotter climents though).

Intake Plenum + Manifold. (simple, but gains were not realy noticalbe)

With all of my mods, my truck is sitting on a 0-60 time of 6.6 seconds, and an estimated 1/4 mile time of 14.95. I have plans for Camshafts + 4.10 gears + Light forced induction. hoping for close to 400 horse power.

if you have further questions or want more detailed information, you need only ask. if i were you, id start it off with the K&N Intake + magnaflow exhaust + Tune.

Thanks mate. I have emailed him already and await his response. Much appreciated.

not a problem :), keep us in the loop about what you decide to do with her.

G'day Mate!!!:D

A simple CAI, exhaust, efan and tune(from hensonperformance.com) will wake your explorer up and make it sound good.(I have the tune, efan and exhaust)

As far as all bolt-on's, Zerodevil is the fella that has done most of them so he knows from experience.

Also, look up JCUZ because he is also from Australia and may have some good ideas on how to get parts shipped over there or where to look. He lives in Canberra?

A simple CAI

Limited, you need to get yourself the K&N CAI bro!!! Makes my Ex howl when I punch the gas, even more so than when I just had the Flowmaster installed alone at first.

I know I need to get one, but I am to cheap:D Next on the mod list is a CAI, new coils, intake/throttle body and take a trip to James Henson's shop for a dyno tune. Hope with those additions I can break into the 14's.

Haha I feel you on the cheapness man. I went with the KKM intake first trying to cut corners, but I wasn't completely satisfied with it so I took the plunge and forked out the cash for the K&N. The heat shield that comes with the K&N kit makes a big difference on hot days.

You're gonna have a beast when you get through all those mods though man! I'm taking a break modding anything engine related until spring.

assuming you have the V8 for towing...

ZERODEVIL is not the unofficial king of bolt ons... he is the king ! of bolt on's lol !

best of luck with the upgrades... BTW can we see pics of your X ?
