Hi guys,
I was having that particular "idle" problem with my Explorer. Mine is a Sport-99 with the SOCH 4.0L engine. My problem started yesterday when finally the engine wasn't able to keep revolutions once the accelerator pedal was depressed. Even running on the street the engine would died if the pedal was completely release. The problem was now consistent no matter if the engine was cold or hot.
Then, I searched at this forum and some others and found about the Idle Control Valve problems. I wasn't able to remove the IAC. The two bolts were very heavy and I almost damage one of them so I decided not to thouch the part at all. I even not sure if I was trying to remove the correct part.
Instead, I decided to remove the 4.0L plastic cover and remove this part, which I don't know its name, but is also connected to the Air flow system from the throtle and mounts with two regular 8mm bolts over the plastic manifold right in the middle.
The part was very dirty with carbon deposits in its inside. I also removed the mounting base which is attached with four torx-15 bolts. Also cleaned this part.
Also cleaned the interior of the throtle. I noticed the factory label warning not to do it but I have to solve this problem today.
...and... TATAAAA!!! The engine started with a little doubt but immediattely remained steady at 1k revs. Subsequents tests resulted completely normal. I was so HAPPY!!!
Now, my questions:
1. what is the name of this part located below the 4.0L plastic cover?
2. where is exactly located the IAC valve? A photo would be very appreciated.
Regards and hope this can help someone else.
