Yesterday I decided to change out my plugs and wires on my 98 Sport that has 90k miles on it. Well After I changed out the plugs and wires I started up the X and when it idled down, it idles now to the point where it almost stalls or it does. I check all the connections and everything looks good. What could be the problem? I also took off the IAC and cleaned it after I started to have the idle problems. Still does the same thing.

add some stp or valvoline fuel injection cleaner to your gas tank..and drive it around for like 2 min. and after you do that it should solve the idling problems...because my 1997 mountaineer did the same thing so i asked a local mechanic and he told me that my fuel injectors might be getting clogged and he told me to add the fuel injection cleaner and it worked for me so give it a try..and if it doesnt work then im sorry

I had this problem..

on my 2000,

I actually had my one plastic thing connected to the intake melt and melt the hoses and then melt some spark plugs..

then i fixed the spark plugs - and had an idle problem, and the truck would stall out..

hooked the computer up to it and checked several things, when taking off the idle control valve - and blew some air through it with a lp hose, it worked fine...

I pulled a trailer the other day and now its doing it again, the part costs $43 at Auto Zone and think I will be paying for it and hopefully getting rid of the problem...

Anyone else experience this?

Dielectric grease in the plug boots? Misfire can occasionally happen from poorly conducted spark. Plug gaps appropriate?

Went and bought a new IAC valve and it idles better but still wants to stall. Now the check engine light comes on. I bought the Boshe Plat #2's so I can't adjust the gap. Going to take it to see what the computer says. Let you know what I find out.

Remove Bosch platinum plugs. Install Motorcraft platinum plugs. This will probably fix it. Bosch plugs are known to run like crap in some Explorers :)

I have a similar problem as well and I can not figure it out. It will stall when idling and there is no set pattern except it seems to do it in warmer weather. No check engine light, I have done all of the tune up stuff I can with the exception of changing the IAC. Unfortunately the IAC on my truck is the $70 version that no one stocks. It always starts right back up.

Well I had that whole digonastics done on it today and they found out that I had a misfire on cyclinders 1,2,3 and they went further and found out that the misfire was comming from my truck having a vacuume leak in the intake manifold. Which caused another code to pop-up saying that the fuel was running richer then it should. So they want to put new gaskets on the upper and lower part of the intake manifold. And while their at it change the injector seals too. For everything they want to charge me $475 to do it. I'm going to check to see if some of my buddies can help me and do it cheaper. Any one have experience in doing this?

Also they said that the Bosch plugs are crap in the X's. He said to replace them with the Motor Craft platium plus plugs.
