New member here. Just bought 2006 Explorer and My first Ford product. How much should the rpm be at idling?, mine is just over 1000. And this morning it started reving up and down. What can the issue be? Thanks

Mine runs between 600-700 rpm. It should run over 1,000 rpm for a few moments after a cold start and then settle down to the 600-700 range. Could be a dirty throttle body or a bad sensor. Pull the trouble codes and see what you find. If there is any then tell us what they are.

Mine hangs around 1,500 for 2 or 3 minutes on a cold start 30-40 F degrees. Then drops to about 800

How did you make out with your idle problem? Are you familiar with auto repair and testing? If so the problem could be a vacuum leak, a very dirty throttle body or if someone has changed the battery it needs a throttle relearn procedure. Let us know how you made out.

Mine seems to idle around 1500 rpm until about 42 degrees Celsius, 108 F consistently regardless of ambient air temperature. I’ve owned it since new, and I don’t recall it taking that long to flow down when it was new
