This is a complicated question. 2003 ST with 66,000 miles. Started the truck after it sitting for a few days and it backfired and died. Started driving and the RPMS were fluttering and it almost died.

Then the check engine light came on and everything has been find since.

I pulled the codes using my code scanner and found some interesting stuff.

Codes P0171 and P0174 which are bank one and bank 2 system to lean
Code was cleared but has not come back. Trying t figure out what caused look what else I found
One my engine RPM is 667RPMs. I checked on all data and it says it should be at 760 to 780 but lists no instructions for adjusting it. I did find this “Idle Adjustment” article

http://www.mysporttrac.com/mysporttrac/projects/IdleAdjust/IdleAdjust.htm

And was wondering if anyone else has had to adjust their idle?

The other thing I found was my heads up display said the outside tem was 62F and my computer was reading 73F as seen in the screen shot below. I had just started the truck after it sitting over night so the extra 11 deg was not from the engine. Could this being causing a problem? Is their an intake air temp sensor? Or is it just the MAF? Should I clean the MAF? my gauges are below.

I read both of these post before. it sounds like they get these codes regularly. I have only got the code once. So i am not sure if it is the same problem.

In both the above posts it sounds like the problem was a vacuum leak. the PCV valve is easy to check but how would i check the intake manifold without taking it apart?

I remember way back in the day using a propane torch with a tube on the end. you put the tube near the vacuum leak and the engine will rev up. has anyone ever heard of that. or is there a less dangerous way to check for vacuum leaks.

Sines the code has not come back yet i have not been worried about it. the only thing that did bother me was the air intake temp. it was 11 degs more then my heads up display. I had just started the engine so it should have been the same temp. Does anyone else think this is a problem? also i found it strange that the calculated load at idle was 30%. not sure what any of the other numbers mean.

So i am not sure if i should just adjust my idle or start taking stuff apart
