What's up guys, been looking around for an Explorer forum, seems like I've foudn what I want!

Just last week, I purchased a '99 EB w/ 5L V8, 72k miles, very clean, for $8200, here's a pic

I'm very happy with my purchase, I love all the nice EB features! I'm glad I went with an Explorer.


Only thing I'm not digging is mileage...currently, I'm getting 15-16mpg with my 5L V8. What can I do to improve it? K&N setup?

Welcome to the site and welcome to driving a SUV.. Your getting typical mileage.. You might be able to gain some improvement by adding a custom exhaust, performance chip from one of vendors, a open air intake ie KKM, K&N, etc.

Welcome to the site. Hi, search for the "quest for 30" thread. Aldive started it and is kind of considered the "mileage king" on the site. He has several tips and products that he used on his V6 SOHC to get 30+ mpg!!! 15-16 mpg on a V8 is normal. Consider yourself lucky. Most of us V6 OHV guys (including myself) get about 15-16 mpg. Atleast you have a fairly powerful motor.

Welcome to the site. Its the best X site around. I do not know about the V8 AWD mileage, but my 4.0 SOHC 4x4 was getting 20 before any mods. Do some looking and I am sure you will find a ton of information you can use.

See...I just learned something. I thought all the V8s were AWD. If you learn to use the search button, you can probably find almost anything you will ever look for.
