Hi everybody. I'm finally posting for the first time after joining and looking for awhile now. The website has been a great source of ideas and help in regards to fixing and modifying my own Explorer. So I'd like to say hi and thanks!
My Explorer had about 88k miles on it when I got it about 3.5 years ago and it's now at 128k. It was in great shape then and I've maintained it as well as I could ever since. I haven't modified it all that much other than adding the 16inch wheels, some lights and a K&N filter. So for the most part it's stock original and reliable. And recently, (thanks to the site) I also found the info to add in the factory subwoofer, but with better components, and it now sound fantastic!
I'm not going crazy with the suspension, but because of the slight sag mine has, I'm going with the shortest shackles I could find (1 1/4") to lift the rear and then crank up the front to achieve an even stance. (I certainly don't want to increase the roll-ability of the thing)
I'm in the Portland area. Any suggestions on finding a group around here that goes out and finds simple roads and trails without looking for walls and boulders to climb? I'm looking for more of an "overland" kind of experience. Point a to point b- but on the dirt, in the forest, along the coast....
