I'm looking for a decent quality hand pump to put in differential fluid and transmission fluid without leaking half of it on the floor. I have one of those suction pumps that they sell at Autozone for $10.00 but it leaks stuff all over. You have to have it pointed up or it leaks. And as you pump it in the oil leaks out the back of the pump.

I would like to buy a simple pump with a long flexable tube that will last for more than one job. A pump that could be used for any fluid would be great (ie. diff fluid, trans fluid, gasoline, ...).

Any ideas???

4 feet of rubber hose and a funnel.

I have two of those suction pumps. They both leak. The best thing I have found to install diff and trans oil is a plastic mustard squeeze bottle. Wal-Mart sells them for about a dollar. You have to fill them 2-3 times to get a complete change, but at least they put more oil in the diff than on the floor.

Drill pump

Get a drill pump. It is about the size of a hockey puck, and attatches to any drill. You should be able to find one at any wal mart or hardware store. You can pump any liquid with it.

I just used a "Fluid Transfer Pump". It looks like a normal pump for lotion or something.

It screws right on the top of wider mouth Gear Lube and Mobil1 bottles.

It comes with some clear tubing and then I had some fuel line (1/4" I believe) laying around that fit right inside the clear tube.

This fuel line came in handy when jamming it in the front diff as you kind of have to ram it in there, that and it won't collapse with the vacuum from the pump.

This style is nice as like Josh S. said, as they screw right on top of the bottle.

I think that my pump began to get a bit 'tired' at the end of removing the old nasty front fluid and filling both. I had to be gentile with it towards the end or it would not pump.

Sounds like the plastic squeeze bottle may be a better way to FILL the diffs...

Damn, I wish I would have thought of that.

Just make sure it is a self priming one.

I bought a cheapie pump at autozone, cost me about $8 and I've used it about 5-6 times with no problems. Its a red pump with red hoses. Works great for tranny fluid, gear oil, etc.
And the 4 feet of hose and a funnel idea, won't work for many things like the differential or transfer case because you have to have the funnel above where the fluid is going in, which isn't always possible.

I use a 120 cc syringe with a couple of feet of rubber hose attached on the bottom of it. It works great for all kinds of things.

screw that, I got a valvoline one that screws onto the top of the gear oil bottles for like $3 at kragen(maybe checkers or shuckers or whatever where u are)

I have the same thing. It is cheap and works great!

I picked up a "Mighty-vac" kit for $25 at AutoZone last year, and it's a great tool. It provides about 25mmHG vacuum to whatever, and has lots of attachments including a reservoir for either draining or filling the T-case or Diffs. It also works very well for one-man brake bleeding. It has a vacuum gauge on it, so its usefull in diagnostics as well.

Well I bought one of those self priming drill pumps at lowes for $5.00. I also bought $10.00 worth of hose (20 ft.) and fittings. So I should have a pretty snazzy little pump I hope. I hope I can suck the tranny fluid out or put in diff fluid easily with it. I has got to be better than those stupid suction pumps that leak like a sieve.
