Hello everyone, I have a '97 Explorer "V-6" with 88000 miles(only one owner "A" title, had 78,000 when I purchaes it privately) hope to get to 150,000. I want to put new shocks on the front. What are recommended without paying a fortune? I also want to change my own plugs, but the one plug by the back wall on passenger side seems very hard to get to, any suggestions? I also want to put in a CD player, I only have a cassette. Anywhere that I can buy one used? Can I do this myself? How much should I expect to pay for a used one versus a new one? I would also like to hear from people who have over 130,000 miles of their "V-6" and how it is still running. This is a great site for Explorer fans, hope to hear from everyone. Thanks in advance for any info you have for me!!

Welcome to the site. The plugs are easiest changed from the wheel wells. You'll need a few extension sizes, and maybe a swivel. Takes a little time, but they can all be gotten to. I have Rancho 5000 shocks. Nice and stiff, and sometimes you can get them for buy 3 get 1 free. Front shocks are an easy job. For the CD player I'd consider an aftermarket one. The Factory CD players are fairly expensive, and have a display problem. Installing a CD player isn't a big deal, but with your radios external amp it will need bypassed or powered.

Since the plugs are a bit of a pita, I suggest you change the wires while you are in there.
