Well the CEL came on after doing some mudding way back, have been way to busy to really dig into this. I believe I came up with codes p0172 and p0175 rich bank 1 and 2. So what I have done and checked with the best of my ability.
Plugs, wires, fuel filter(due for them anyway)
cleaned my K&N
Cleaned MAF sensor
Checked the fuel pulse dampener, and what I believe is the fuel pressure sensor on the driver side fuel rail for leakage from the vacuum ports by cycling the key 5 or more times and with it running.
Every now and then its tough to start. Starts most of the time on first try no problems, but every now and then it will sputter then quit, making it tough to restart.
Well that is what I have for now, I cant imagine that both o2 sensors when at once. Since I do alot of mixed range driving its really tough to tell if I really lost alot of fuel economy. Any help is greatly appreciated since my nys inspection is now about 5 months overdue and I really dont wana get any tickets. Just means less money for mods for my truck.

thanks

Anyone have any ideas on this, or are you just stumped as me

I'm pretty stumped, lean condition is easy to fix. Rich... idk. My only guess is the fuel injectors are leaking

Mud could be a possibility but i cleaned the under side of the truck well afterwards. Now i was taught that they got the Outside air through the wires. I may be full of it though. Ill take a close look at them tomorrow and check the plugs. Not very convinced though. Ill let you guys know what i find. Thanks

Well I double checked the o2 sensors and connections for mud and such and they look very clean. So here I am stumped again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well thinking on it more I better get a fuel pressure gauge. Been meaning to buy one for awhile now. Makes sure its holding fuel pressure with the engine off. Ill also clean my IAC make sure thats not sticking. I cant think of much more to check.

Have you tried cleaning the fuel injectors yet?

As in using some fuel treatment? I was thinking of that the other day. Wouldnt hurt at all to try.

Nope, although you might wanna try removing them and dipping them in seafoam. Buddy did this to fix leaky injectors on his mom's chevy.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!! didnt wana leave this thread dead with no answer

Since I could not fine out for sure exactly where excessive fuel might be leaking into the intake I checked every possible suspect. I did the following:

cleaned air filter
cleaned MAF
cleaned IAC
plugs and wires
multiple bottles of fuel injector cleaner into the tank
Checked the fuel pulse dampener, and what I believe is the fuel pressure sensor on the driver side fuel rail for leakage from the vacuum ports by cycling the key 5 or more times and with it running.

so at this point nothing worked. ran smoother but still throwing both rich codes. I still had my doubts that both O2 sensors took a dump at the same time. Only thing I had left was to either pull the injectors and clean them or replace both O2 sensors. Since I didnt have the time to pull everything apart to clean the injectors i went with replacing the sensors. Bought 2 BOSCH O2 sensors from napa and installed them. Im on the third day and no code has been thrown yet. Normally the codes would have been thrown almost within 5-10 min of driving. Hope this helps someone else out there in the future.

Thanks all for the help, much appreciated!

congratulations!

Congratulations on resolving the richness problem and thanks for posting the solution! It is unusual for both O2 sensors to fail at the same time unless they have been contaminated. Did you spray silicone into the intake just before the problem started?

Well this is the time I make that typical post of shame.......

Well now that I have my foot in my mouth ill let you know the same two codes popped up again. Now I dont know if I missed some fuel leaking out when I checked the those two spots on the fuel rail, im going to have to check them again. Now I have read that the MAF can cause this. Maybe showing a false reading. not sure how to test for that. Last thing I can think of is the fuel injectors leaking. But I figure if I had at least one leaking on each side my engine would run like garbage. Im really bummed and getting a little frustrated now. Anyone know what else I should check before I start pulling injectors?

MAF Sensor testing

If you don't have a scanner to read the airflow reported by the MAF sensor then you can use a voltmeter to check for reasonable values. See this thread for comparison values: MAF Sensor Test Procedure

I doubt that you will be able to rev the engine higher than 3,000 rpm in Park or Neutral due to a safety modification in 2001 or 2002.

Well it is finally confirmed that the code is cleared and all monitors have set, in fact I got my truck inspected today and pass with flying colors! One last thing I tried for the hell of it was Lucas fuel injectors cleaner and seafoam the engine. Dont know for sure what one did it but If fixed the problem! Thing runs like a top now infact, I feel like it has just a little more power. Could be all in my head:confused:

Thanks a ton for all your help guys! Hope this thread helps someone in the future as confusing as it mas still seem.

Same with my 02 XLT 4.0
Throwing P0172 & P0175 , also has a C1145 code.
Airbag light on, abs & check engine light.
