Hi I am new here and I hope I am posting in the correct place!

I know what I am what I am experiencing is not possible, but.....

I just replace the clutch on my 94 explorer. While this is not my first such job, it is the first time in many, many years.

I put everything back together yesterday and it runs great, except for one little issue.

I am stuck in low range. OK, that doesn't sound too crazy, but I am stuck in low range and 2WD. I am positive. I have manual huba and they are engaged, but no power goes to them until I push the 4WD selector. Meanwhile I am still in low range.

I am soo confused and hoping someone can help me. Furhter evidence of the 2 vs. 4WD mode. Lots of fresh snow here. I can feel the difference when I shift into 4WD in how my tire spin.

thanks!

It's possible to be in low range and 2WD, but usually this is either achieved deliberately by leaving the manual hubs unlocked, or accidentally due to broken auto hubs or some mechanical failure in the transfer case.

It's not supposed to be possible to engage low range without 4WD, and additionally without coming to a complete stop, to prevent damage to the drivetrain and also to prevent sudden decelleration if it was engaged during normal driving.

Do you have a manual or automatic transfer case?

You should be able to disengage low range once 4WD is engaged.

If 4WD engages and disengages, but low range won't, then it's either an electronic issue with the electric transfer case, or some mechanical issue with either.

Well I took the shift motor off and it is in WD.

Manual transfer case with push button operation.

Is there anything I could have done whilst r&r-ing the tranny to put it in some kind of low range, or should I accept that somehow my transfer case died in the process?
