is it hard to do? i want to get rancho RSX shocks for my EXP but i dont wanna pay for labor...someone please let me know how hard it would be to install shocks...thanks
not very hard, i did it myself, your gonna want a jack to make the suspension droop as much as it can. you also wanna take out the spare tire to get to the top mount.
I just did it last week. I would say definitely save the money and do it yourself. Does it have the stock shocks? If so, they are gas-pressureized, and are kind of a pain to get off. They act like they are spring-loaded, and you have to compress them by hand to get them off. 2 people makes the job a lot easier. I got the rancho 9000's, and the lower mounting ends of the fronts and the upper ends of the rears had been installed backwards. (If you don't understand this, I'll try and explain it again. You'll see what I'm talking about when you try and install them, if they are not right). But they are easy to fix. Just stick the end in a vise and twist it until it's right. Maybe someone else can explain it better. You'll be amazed by the difference in ride quality/handling. I just did the TTand Shackles with rancho 9000's and it rides and corners much better than at stock height. Also, brake dive is nearly eliminated.
i want to give a little lift and 31s...i wanna know how to do the torsion twist if i can...are there directions anywhere? also how much are the shackles for 95 explorer...if they are even availible
If you look at the home page, in the list of all the different topics is one called LIST OF USEFUL THREADS. In there you will find instructions for installing the Warrior shackles and doing the torsion twist. The shackles are made by Warrior Products I ordered mine from Desert Rat (they are not listed on their website. you have to call them: 1-866-444-5337). They were $60 including shipping. It takes about 5 days to ship. They are part# WAR153, and fit all explorers, even the sport with the mono-leaf, which is what I have. (All explorers with leaf springs have the same dimensions). One thing I did that might be helpful is to spray the torsion bar adjuster bolts and shackle bolts with penetrating oil (or WD-40 or whatever) every day for a week before you do the lift. It might be overkill, but it sure made it easy to loosen things. I have heard of people breaking their torsion adjuster bolts because they were hard to turn. Also, be sure to get an alignment right away because the camber of the front wheels will change and you'll wear out the tires real quick. Good luck. Let us know how things turn out.
