Instructions for tranny vacuum modulator.

I am confused by all the different instructions I have found. What is the easiest way to replace the modulator?

Definitely go through the access panel in the floor. I made a post about it a loooong time ago... You can probably find it if you search by user name "B94Sport" and search for "VMV"... I just removed the passenger seat and center console, then pealed back the carpet. There is a panel in the floor where the stick would come through if you had a 5 speed... This is held down by 4 8mm bolts. Take the bolts out, remove the panel, and you should be able to see the VMV on the passenger side of the tranny. IIRC, it is held in by one small bolt and has a vacuum tube running to it. Pull off the tube, undo the bolt, and take out the VMV. BE SURE TO SAVE THE PIN! Put the pin in the new VMV and repeat the directions in reverse.

and that pin is key, make sure you don't lose it
