K&N FIPK IS NOT availible for the 98 5.0. take it from me, ive been looking around for an intake for my X for the past +4 years... It wasnt until early last month i found out about MAC. I was about to purchase the KKM system, but the MAC intake tube really sold me. Many on this board are pleased with the gains KKM has added to their truck. Even our leader RICK has one on his truck. I have installed a 97 FIPK kit on my cousin's 98 5.0. we have the exact same truck (except that i have leather.) The only difference with the 97 kit is that you might have to fabricate a few brackets to keep the weight of the filter from having the intake tube rest on all the radiator hoses. The 97 FIPK kit is CARB exempt which is a good thing if you live in lovely califoria. but only CARB exempt for 97, not 98. but whatever. keep the stock box jsut in case! i ordered the MAC kit because of the intake tube. it just looks so pretty. costs about teh same as the 97 K&N FIPK, if not cheaper. ive seen that FIPK go for almost $250. My MAC is supposed to come on Thursday from stupid RPMOUTLET.com, (check my other post to read about me going off on RPMOUTLET.COM) when i install my kit, ill posts some pics up if it helps.
