hi,

i was tearing down the motor in my explorer yesterday and i was under the impretion that it was a gt40 becasue of its internal egr setup. however, under closer examination when the valvecovers were removed i found "GT40P" cast into both heads. they are clearly internal egr as the passage ways are black with carbon build up. i'm unsure what ive got.

thanks

You have the late 96 5.0 in your early 97 explorer.

How can you be unsure of what you have?

You have a GT40P motor. They were internal EGR. Not hard to figure that out. The answer is right in front of you. Literally.
