Is Dynamat (or similar) really all that great? And how to apply it?

Ok, I have been pondering the idea of putting some dynamat on the doors, and maybe doing some type of spray sound deadiner in the back cargo area so get some of the rattles out when the sub hits. I have the box behind the rear panel (like a thunderform), and when outside of the car it sounds very bad. I was wondering if some dynamat or some spray on stuff will really help this out? Also, how do you apply dynamat, like on doors? I ahve heard that it can be pretty hard to get it all on there nice, because you have to cut pieces out and then place them in there, or something? I don't know, so please help me out here.

Yeah i would help get rid of some of thoses rattles. It will stop the back pannel from rattling up agginst the body of your explorer. I know when i did mine it made a diffrence. But i donno some people have diffrent oppinions about sound killers.

I put Dynamat on my front doors to get rid of some of the "road noise" to clear up my mids and highs works really well. I am going to put in all in the rear cargo area as well. It is suppose to increase SPL too because it doesn't allow the car to absorb the sound. My doors don't rattle at all as where before they used to. I haven't tried the spray on stuff, but the sticky sheets weren't that hard to install. You just line it up on the door and trim it with a razor blade to fit. Depending on what level you buy (original, super, ultimate,???) It can get expensive but I will definatly reduce the rattles you are hearing from the outside. Just be sure that your Thunderform will fit back in the space once you have applied the Dynamat. Mine was about 1/4" thick.

Thanks for the help, I really want to get some, but like you said, it is very expensive. I have also hard of people using roofing paper, or I htin it is also called tar paper, or something like that. I heard it makes the car stink for like 2 weeks, but could I just sort of hang it up somewhere outside of my house, or something for a while before applying it to get rid of the smell? Thanks

I would go with the Dynamat. This way no smell and it's designed to do what it says it will. The roofing stuff seems questionable. All it probably does is add weight to absorb the sound. So the actual body of the explorer doesn't. The Dynamat will definately do a good job. You won't be disapointed.
