For the past week or two it has taken longer for the truck to start, and it seemed it was turning over a bit slower. Tonight it wouldn't start. Turned over a couple of times, but that was it. In my other recent thread I said it wasn't the battery, but I could be wrong. My vehicle is an '06 XLS w/136K miles. The battery is a 6+ year old Duralast. I have one of those battery/alternator meters plugged into the 12V port. At rest the battery voltage is below 12V, and it drops below 11 when I try and start it. My dash lights were also acting up for the last 2 days. So it's either the battery or starter. Will probably throw a new battery in it in the am. I need my truck on Wednesday to drive to my brothers funeral, so I need to fix it soon.

Good idea on the battery. Six years is a good long time for a battery to last these days.

Sorry about your brother.

I noticed your other post and immediately thought that it was the battery or the starter connection that was bad and not the starter. I would have the CCA's checked (most auto parts stores do this for free) on the existing battery to verify that it is bad before you purchase another one, but the symptoms suggest that it is.

Problem solved. Threw a new battery into it this am, and she started up with a vengence. The old battery date was 3/09. I must have gotten used to a weak battery the past couple of years, because, man this really cranked her over. Thanks all.

...yeah, flew to Atlanta and watched the Giants game with him on Sunday, and he died on Monday.....got there just in time :-(
