I am thinking about just going ahead and hard wiring this after market stero. If I do so, and run a new pos wire and run all new speaker wires, that would make my issue of not having the correct wiring diag for the radio nothing to worry about. So if there is any pointers for me to do so I would greatly appericate them all. And thank you all.......

My aftermarket unit and amp were installed by the pros but they did mention the Explorer stock amp and wiring needed redoing of some sort. I wish I had asked more in depth questions. All I was interested in was a thumpin' 94

I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers to this Elf.

i hate the fact that the guy who had this explorer before me hacked up the wires so short i can barely cut them to redo his mistakes. ####!
also, theres like a bare wire coming out of the jumble of wires, is this right? its just in the middle of it all. is it possible to just buy a new radio harness and splice all the wires into a factory harness?

Yes you can do that, go to ebay and search for "Reverse harness"

thanks. ps sorry to steal the thread away
does anyone know what that bare wire would be for? i pulled the tape around the harness back a bit and its a bare wire, not like it just got stripped, its not copper either, its silver, and he had it attached to like...the back of the deck

Is it a wire with a rubber sheating? Or just straight wire, like a twisty tie that's aged a lot?

its just a bunch of thin silver wires, much like youd see in cheap positive and negative wires of small lights or something. theres no rubber insulator around it at all, but its almost too thin to be a wire for the radio.

pretty much like a bunch of these just...in a line.
