I've put my 1999 ford explorer in the air and I'm trying to determine the location of a leak. I turned the SUV on and put it into gear. When I took it out of gear (Neutral) it seems to stay any gear. Did I screw something up?

No.

thanks for the reply. Kevin, from the local O'Reily's Auto Parts Store, said the same; indicated that a certain amount of resistance needed to be put on the tires for the neutral gear to engage.

Does your gear indicator line up with gear it's suppose to been in? The bushings in your shifter may be blown out.
