My 2007 Explorer has started exhibiting some quirky symptoms. First last week, the vehicle was very sluggish, then the engine revved very high ( like the tranny wasn't engaged), the temp light came on. After pulling over, and restarting-no problems. Then today, I was driving highway speed with cruise on. I turned on the windshield defrost and the cruise shut off. I was not able to put the car in cruise control as long as the blower was on ( A/C or Defrost etc.).

Any ideas? Sounds like maybe two seperate problems. The cruise control issue was one that I read was addressed by replacing a switch located on the brake cylinder. Unfortunately, that switch is not available in the newer models. My vehicle is a 6 cylinder and has 138,000 miles. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Those symptoms seem to indicate a possible problem within the charging system, but I believe that the cruise and blower motor go through the smart junction box so check the charging system and if ok then check the SJB.
Edit: I forgot to mention, check for diagnostic codes since the engine temperature light came on meaning that there should be something stored in the system indicating why.

I will pull up the codes. I should let you know ahead of time that I am absolutely not a mechanic... Hell, I didn't even sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night...haha!
When you say " charging system", I assume you mean electrical.

I mean the alternator, battery, and voltage regulator. I believe that autozone can check your charging system and check for any diagnostic codes for you.
