I verified with FMS today that the headers are being built and will be available late summer. No more tick... tick... tick... tick... Later, Bleedingforheaders
When I took my old ones off and replaced them with FMS headers two years ago, I could not believe the small openings on the OE headers. But they created more torque on the lower RPM band.
The old headers looked like they were made by a 2and grader with a new welding machine. My granddaughter could have done a better job. Could not believe Ford would put out such a poor product.
You will like the new headers when you get them. I picked up a solid 1 MPG towing...but did loose some torque, which I miss.
Yep, that is what I have come to learn. Headers are great for speed but not so good for towing trailers, although they contribute a little to better milage.
Torque, not HP, is what it is all about when towing up long grades with 4K lbs of trailer attached!
I'm new here, but real excited about the headers. Could this be a group buy scenario, or is it such a relatively new item on the market that FMS wouldn't entertain it? (I realize that the headers were formerly on the market so not really a new item, but rather not available for an extended period)
Indeed, very exciting to hear. However, I'll believe it when they are actually availible for me to purchase.
I had the stock manifolds out of the truck this past weekend while doing head gaskets, and they were not pretty. Lets just hope they're not outrageously priced, the old ones were $175 - a fair deal.
As for the trailer towing, I had towed with both my old 1998 Mountaineer V8 with stock headers and my 1999 Ranger with Explorer V8 and the FMS headers. The Ranger would out tow the mountaineer ANY DAY! The ranger was also a 4x4 4door (4500lbs even with me in it) and the Mounty was a 4x2, so weight was pobably fairly even.
I was very impressed with the towing capability of the explorer V8 engine with the FMS headers. (I also have 3.5" single exhaust from CATs back.

This is a topic that I'll be watching with interest. Last year or so, at least six months after the last of Summit's supply of the FMS 5.0 Explorer headers had been sold, my local Ford dealer was still showing that part number as "available". I figured that I'd take a shot and plunked down my credit card. Of course, they eventually called me and said that the part was no longer available and credited my account.
I found out about the discontinued parts through this forum long before my local dealer figured it out. So... if the new headers use the old FMS part number, we might just catch someone with the "old" price still in the computer.
I would definately be up for some FMS headers, I am getting the tick, tick, tick right about now and can use a true dual exhaust system with FMS headers.
The guy at ford racing has been telling me anyday for months. I finally found some that had never been installed. He gave me a part number and my dealer had ordered them for me. I have since cancelled but the dealer told me they would have been over $350.
I've been looking around online and have noticed that there are a set of shorty Hooker headers for the Ford 302 (5.0L) Hooker has a solid reputation with making kickass headers especially for musclecars. Anyone have any information on whether or not these would fit our ex's?

Flange/bolt-holes would line-up, but the twist/contour/overall size would not clear the frame rail, steering column, etc. It's a tight and specific fit; need the "custom" headers that will hopefully show up sometime soon.
