I purchased a stage1 chip. Can't find where the port is to install it. The directions say ecm is located pass side fire wall under hood. I removed the harness connector but can't find the port. Do I remove the ecm from firewall?
Is the port on the back of ecm? I have a 98 explorer 5.o:(

jet chip installed!

 I installed the chip so here is how to do it. The ECM is on the l/s firewall under hood. Disconnect the negative battery cable, use a 10mm socket to unsecure the harness connector plug from ECM. Use a 7/16 socket to remove the rubber boot/cover from the front of the ECM. Slide the ECM out of the firewall. On the rear of the ECM is a warranty sticker covering the
access door where the chip goes. Remove it and use a flat tip screw driver to pop out the access door. I used a paper towel to remove the grease like coating on the terminals of the circuit board and used a small pocket knife to scrape the contacts of the terminals and used the brown scrobbing pad that came with the chip. Wiped the contacts off with a paper towel and installed the chip and used the security tape that came with the chip and placed ot over the chip and onto the ECM to secure the chip. Reinstalled the ECM and reconnected the negative battery cable and started right up. Took for a short drive, seems like it has more pep interested to see if the fuel milage is
increased.

So how is it?? im dying to know, been considering a chip for my explorer, and my jeep

it has more pep, sets you back in the seat from a dead stop and seems to get better fuel milage. I recommend it. I wil be installing a jet mass air flow sensor next.
