I am currently running an Alpine MRD-F572, which is 110x4 and 389x1 on the birthsheet to MB Quart QSD213's up front, and MB Quart DKD157's in the rear. I am about to get a JL 10W7 in a sealed box and run it from a JL 500/1. I don't know how much the alternator puts out. I am hoping that the two amps won't kill it. I also have a one farad cap, and am running 4 ga throughout for power. so, if I added the 4 channels up and the sub, a little over 1,000 watts, since the JL is underrated, puts out around 625 or so. Does anyone else have a similar setup? Any feedback would be grealy appreciated

Use the Search button. Ive seen a few ppl say they ran the 500/1 with not many problems (dimming). But if you dont want dimming, may I suggust a D class amp. They draw much less amps from the alternator, and are just better performers. Your whole system dosent have to be just JL amps, mix it up...

I am not running all JL amps, like I said, I have an Alpine MRD-F572, which is a 5 channel amp. However, when I get the 500/1, I will no longer be using the 5th channel on the Alpine, so that shouldn't draw to many amps anymore.
In terms of a monoblock amp, I really like the JL and if I can find an amp that puts out at least 600 watts at 3 ohms, and is no larger than the 500/1 which is only 15 inches wide. I have to bolt the amp on to the other back half of my rear seat, and there are already crossovers mounted there. Physical size must remain small.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The US Acoustics USX800D puts out 600 @ 2ohms, but is really 700-800 @ 14.4volts, so 3 ohms will be about 600Watts. This is the cheapest place to get it --> http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/us_acoustics.html

US Acoustics is a very good brand, and that amp is a D class. Check out Dead Link Removed and ask them about subs and amps...

Oh the 500/1 isn't digital....hmm i dont follow JL that much, but that definitely sounds like a good setup, you should be alright as long as you dont always have it cranked, your battery is good, and you have the 130 amp alternator.....

I'v got a setup very close to yours

My 1998 Explorer Sport has got the following running on a good battery and the stock alternator:
Mac 443 amp (4 x 100) feeding some Focal components
JL 500/1 feeding a 10w6
1.0 Farad Monster Cap.

No dimming, no problems.
Hope this helps.

That definitely makes me feel better. With the alpine pushing 110x4 to the MB Quart QSD's, and the JL 500/1 pushing the 10W7, and having my 1 Farad Cap, its nice to know someone out there has a similar setup and doesn't have any problems. Thanks for the help, and hopefully this will work.

you should be fine. we sell a lot of the same setup (500/1 and 10W7) and most people run them with stock alternators. no problems so far.

ive got 3 rf amps pushing a set of mids/tweets, a pair of rear fills and 2 12's, and it rocks with no dimming.......i guess i got lucky but in the future i will be rewinding(?) the alt......

ive got a cap in there, but i dont really think it does anything, and yes, its charged.......
