2013 Explorer XLT
I'm wondering if anyone else has run across this situation? I've got a 2013 Explorer XLT with a 3.5 non turbo. I purchased it with a seized alternator. Before I tackled the job I called the Ford dealer with the vin to confirm that I had a 200a alternator. I found one at a junk yard about an hour from my house. Fast forward to today I took my old alternator out and found that the junk yard alternator (which is a pretty good condition reman.) has the plug facing the wrong direction. It looks to be the same plug but I don't want to have any clearance issues with the wiring and cooling fan. Has anyone had this happen to them? Will the sideways plug work? Thanks in advance.

Which one is which? Is the replacement a Ford alternator? There are several;l posts here that mention that only a Ford OEM alternator works in the Explorer.

The Original is the lower one in the picture, with the plug coming out of the back. The junk yard one is on the top, with the plug coming out of the side.
