'99 Explorer XLT 4dr 4x4
OK, new to the forum and I have enjoyed the reading. Just bought a '99 explorer XLT 4dr 4x4 w/ some changes needed. I have the classic sag in the rear leaf spring dept. Also will be buying 4 new Michelins (larger to fill the wheel wells). Shocks very soon, the factory ride is too bouncy. Basically I'm looking for some advice on rear spring treatment, along w/ a shock package for premium ride on highway only. This vehical will never see anything beyond a dirt path and that will be extremely rare. The only other current concern is the fuel gauge. It seems to stick from time to time, I cannot seem to under stand why. As I drove to work it seemed to get horrible mileage. When I left work the gauge seemed to climb back where it should have been. Overall, the vehical is in great shape, chesnut color, but rides like crap. Again, I enjoy the sight, thanks for the help.

How much sag do you have in the rear? If it's noticeable than a set of shackles should lift it up where it should be or a little higher. A little higher in the back looks better than too low. Warrior Shackles part number WAR-153 are fairly inexpensive, and easy to install. Probably any shock would have better ride quality over the shocks from 99 if they are stock. A lot of members like the Edelbrock IAS, though I have never used them.

The sag is just starting to be noticed. Maybe 1" total drop. How much ride quality do you lose if any w/ AAL?

AAL will stiffen it quite a bit.

I'm moving this to the Modified 1995-2005 Explorer section.
