1998 Ford Explorer XLT
Hi everyone I haven't posted in a really long time as several months ago I made the decision to part with my 96 explorer. My husband convinced me to get something smaller so I bought a Chevy Tracker since then I began to have some major issues with my knees causing me not to be able to drive the Tracker as it's a standard. I sold my 96 explorer shortly after getting the Tracker before my knee issue became a huge problem.

Saturday morning my husband got me another Explorer that's actually way nicer then my old one. This one is a 1998 XLT with 219,000km and way more options then my old one had. I'm beyond happy to have another one and will not make the same mistake time it will be staying with me for a very long time.

My 96 will always be missed because it was a gift from my parents but this one is so much nicer and there's nothing wrong with it at all except the keyless entry is a bit weird. Anyone know why it won't lock the doors but still arms the system and unlocks them?

Here's a picture of my new explorer:

thats a very nice explorer, and deffinitely an upgrade to a tracker! get the brake dust cleaned off those wheels and it will look just like new.

I like the old one better. ;)
Looks like mine.

As for the locking not working, there's a solder connection in the back that goes bad in these trucks.
If you open the drivers side back door, and take off the plastic panel above the running boards, you will reveal the wire loom running to the back of the truck. In that loom, you will see, I believe it's a pink wire, which is taped off. Open that and you'll see that the connection is bad. Just redo it with solder or a butt connector and it'll work.

Thanks for the info on the wiring I will check that out.

Yeah I still miss my old one but it was beat on really hard by my dad. It did 4 years of logging road travel and it showed in everything on it. I put close to $1000 into it when I got it and could have spent another $1000 if I'd continued.

The old one did 4 years on this highway (if you can call it a highway)

As for the rims I wish it was as simple as cleaning them they are actually in really bad shape and are peeling so I'm on the hunt for some new ones.

+1 on this. Pink with light green stripe wire is "unlock" circuit; pink with yellow stripe wire is the "lock" circuit. One way to check if the corroded splice is likely the problem is to see if the switch at the rear liftgate will work to lock the doors. This switch connects directly to the lock and unlock relays - it does not go thru the aforementioned splices. Good luck.

Yes the button in the rear locks the doors with no issue so I will look into the wiring when I get around to it.
