I was just casually talking to a guy on irc today that claimed to be a "master tech" at a ford dealer somewhere up north. he owned a 1st gen explorer and the very second I began discussing my trucks issues with him he brought out that he would "void my warranty" for my mods, and begged me "do me and the rest of the ford dealers a favor ...go and buy a chevy"

I must say after dealing with this person, and dealing with every ford dealership in this town.. my faith in ford is gone, my respect for the ford name is gone, my respect for my own vehicle is practically gone, I was suspecting that ford as a company did not care at all about its customers, but now this person has proved it to me, I just wanted to share some of that with yall, I haven't been posting for a while cos I didn't feel that I could really say anything that could really be of any help.. well.. it seems as soon as I can financially support it, I'll be trying to get rid of this truck and finding me a chevy.

yall have all been very great, and I know unless things REALLY go my way right now it will be a long time before I can change vehicles, but I just wanted to get this off my chest, I dont plan to leave the forum, nor do I mean to offend anyone, please dont take this the wrong way

Hey there, I have read some of your past posts and can see why you feel that way at the moment. I have owned alot of Fords, Chevys, Dodges, Jeeps ect. I have had good ones and bad ones of all makes. I don't judge a bad car truck ect. on brand name. It's just luck!
I have no problems with my explorer. I love it. My last ride was a ranger that I put 250,000 miles on with nothing more then tune-ups. Then again I had a mustang that was nothing but problems. My point is It's not a Ford or Chevy thing. Just plain old luck on what you end up with. If what you have is a POS then sell it and get something better and faster.:D

ALL makes and models have problems. The Chevy won't be 100% trouble free either....

First of all, that guy is full of $h!t. Federal law says that a dealer can NOT void your warranty for mods. What they can do is void your warranty for a particular component if the mod caused it to fail. Even if a part did cause the failure, they have to prove that it in fact did cause it. If you lift your X, and the CV joints go out, then they can in fact say "Sorry, the lift made them fail and thus is not covered," and that would be legal. If you lift your X and you blow a gasket or the radio goes out, they must fix it if still in the warranty period. A lift will in no way make your radio fail. It would be absolutely rediculous for dealer to try and say your warrnty is void. Knowing the law is the best defense. I have never had a problem with it. I never even bothered taking out my chip when I brought my X in to the dealer. More often than not, I get a compliment on my X.

Sounds like your "Master Tech" has an axe to grind........

Definitely agree with Flyin 5.0

I had a Jeep Wrangler for 4 years, no probs.
Went to a Pathfinder 2 years, no probs.
I have owned my Explorer for 8 years now and love it.

I keep up with the routine maintenance (oil change every 3k, etc). There is a definite element of luck. I do think I have had it (with vehicle only, boo hoo). All you can do is increase your chances of finding a gem by taking care of it.

Good luck!!!

Probobly a chevy sales man lol posing as a ford techy:p

The more you modify it the less is becomes a Ford. The more you modify it the less likely if will be maintained by a Ford dealership shop. Sounds to me like he just had an ax to grind.

I have had good and bad experiences with dealership shops. I do not use them except for warrenty or recall repairs.

This "Master tech." guy sounds like one of those people who are impressed by the little knowledge & position they have. This guy is a "Ledgend in his own mind."
Usually someone who makes a blanket statement like that is just covering up for his lack of knowledeg on the subject.
Do what will make you feel best but dont do it because of some know-it-alls rash statement.

Bill's right, don't become discouraged over the comments of some pompous technician. Like everyone has been saying, it's all in maintenance and a little bit of luck, sounds like you have good luck. Your truck is bad@ss and I wouldn't let some stupid mechanic who thinks he is God's gift to this world even challenge that. Ignore him and do what you think is right.
My last ride was a ranger that I put 250,000 miles on with nothing more then tune-ups. Then again I had a mustang that was nothing but problems. My point is It's not a Ford or Chevy thing. You're absolutely right on that! My brother had a Bronco II that died at 135K miles (tranny, engine, etc) whereas my Bronco II lasted 225K without a problem until I bought my X. No difference in maintenance, just bad luck.

Or a man who drives a Chevy and works for Ford.:D

...or he's just some 13 yr old punk having fun online!

Like they say, I'd rather push my Ford than drive a Chevy :)
