Just wondering how much a complete transmission would cost

My brother just gifted his 2000 Explorer to my daughter (a good uncle!) and it has 101,000 miles on it. So far, no transmission problems. If the tranny goes out, what does a REPUTABLE, HIGH-QUALITY rebuild cost? Assuming a major rebuild is required -- hard & soft parts, new converter. Any ideas/suggestions?

Usually around here a full rebuild at a local shop is like 2k depending on the condition of the transmission. but that was a couple years ago so maybe just a reference point.. you could also call around and ask any shops how much they would charge..
