Did the install of my Christmas present, the JVC KD-SH99 today.

The longest part of the install was the soldering and heat shrinking the wiring harness from the HU to the adaptor harness. After that, the install took about 10 min.

This is a wonderful sounding unit, even with the stock speakers ( for now, soon to replaced with the DX7 Polks ).

The feature I like best is the changeable viewing angle.

nice HU. I got some polk 502a's I think in my rear and they sound great. Winter just started here so I'm waiting till spring to resume my mods but I've listen to the dx7's in the start and they are probably in my top 5 for car speakers. I personally don't have the extra cash to run 300 - 600 good components to the front and put another 300 bucks towards the amp.

Nice head unit indeed! I considered getting that exact same head unit because of it's clean look and MP3 features. But, I decided to go with the Sony CDX-CA860X instead because of it's look and upgradability.

All I gotta do is get an amp and ALL my equipment is being installed! :)

nice, is that the one that only has the controls on the joystick-style remote? i looked at that one, but i went with the sony cdx-m620 (i think thats the right model number); i love it.

Yep, all controls are on a joystick. Plus there's a wireless remote. I like the idea of no buttons, it helps with theft too.

yeah, i never thought of that :p mines got the detachable face, and i think mine and yours both have that active black panel display, so that when the units off, it looks like theres nothing there (though, its pretty obvious that theres a radio there, heh.)

well I don't think its like a thief would really look in and go "gosh theres no stereo there, just a black panel!" lOL but they do make it really tough to steal. by teh way I've recently been doing some stereo work, and I can get a stereo out of all the ford cars I've tried (including neatly unplugging the connectors etc.) in about a minute or two each. Dang I should be a car thief... LOL j/k

By the way thats a good MP3 head unit. What did you do with the extra space? Your old stereo was a double-din wasn't it? I'm looking at a few different MP3 head units but looking most seriously at the double-din ones (like the one from visteon, made by ford) because I don't want to have to find a use for that extra space :).
Although maybe I could turn it into a switch panel or something... hmm...

Post some pics ;)

well this is mine. you dont need that mp3 feature. this one i have has NO problem with mp3's at all! plus it has sub controls built into it :p

Matt, I put a single din unit into mine and got the pocket thingy to use the space. I usually end up putting all my little notes in there, or use it for napkins since I don't have the tissue box anymore :)

Though if I get the remote bottle opener for my N2O I might put all 3 N2O switches there, though they're probably more convenient where all my other switches are.

Yes, I am a BIG fan of the Active Black Panel display. I love the dot matrix graphics. The black panel is great when you're at the mall or what not and you don't wanna take your faceplate with ya. Now, when you're going to be gone from your truck a while, you take the face with you. Plus, with my unit, stealing it would be useless because I plan on locking up the joystick and remote in my glovebox ;) NICE TRY THIEVES! :D

Matt, its not actually a double size space, and when using the mounting kit, there is a space of about 1 inch that has a slot in it ( like a little tray ) thats basically useless; just fills space mad makes the deck mount easy and look good.

The ones by Visteon's only plus factor is that they do look stock. They simply do not have the flexibility to set up a good system. Further, if their display works ( actually doesn't work ) like the stock factory unit, they are indeed a POS.

Good luck....

actually it is a double din size space. the pocket is only about an inch or so, but there is some molding on the other side of the HU too. for example, i have the pocket on top of my HU, and underneath the HU theres some molding there, too. if you wanted to put another single din unit in there, you could definately do it, youd just have to remove the molding and reposition the HU inside the hole in the dash (i.e.: pioneer dsp processor, small in dash changer, equalizer, etc.) you couldnt use the same mounting kit that you have now (i dont think), but people do it all the time. (also, if you wanted to put a double din unit in there, you could do it, no problem.)

you do have a point about the pocket, however. i still have yet to find something useful to use it for. if i had some switches, id probably through em in there. alec said he stick napkins in there, which isnt a bad idea if i let people eat in my truck ;) at some point, id love to get an in dash monitor, so ill probably put it in that space.
