K&N Intake Question

I'm fixin' to get an intake kit in my '96 Ex. I am getting a little confused on the FIPK Generation I and II. What is the difference and which one is the best bet for my truck?? HELP!!

The 1st Gen. model is only the bolt on filter:

The 2nd Gen. model is the filter, plus heat shield and intake tube:

(Taken from website):
"This process is accomplished by replacing the entire air intake tract, thus isolating the cold air and directing the air through this truly unique chamber delivery system. This process may or may not include a heat shield."

Most people go with the 2nd Gen. if there's a model that fits their year/model, if you're going to improve the intake, might as well go all the way.
