I have an 02 Ex.. Every now and then it chimes at me but its the locks.. It'll try and lock the doors at like 5 mph.. It gets annoying sometimes because i hear it try to lock and than i hear the chime
It got soo annoying one day that while out with friends urban exploring the light kept going on.

I honestly have no idea about cars so i dont know the first place to look any suggestions? (i've gotten keen to getting out and SLAMMING every door, hatch and all - still no avail)

What I gather from your post is that the door ajar light & chime randomly come on and you can't lock your doors with the button on the driver's door.

A lot of these electrical gremlins can be related to the door ajar switch or broken/damaged wires in the boot between the driver's door and the body.

Many have had success with the door ajar problem by spraying WD-40. If you do a search for "door ajar" you will find many posts.

Here is a great thread for removing the door panel and replacing the door ajar switch, thanks to borland for the awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249253

Before you replace anything I recommend that you check out this great thread for checking for broken/damaged wires, thanks to synyster for this awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=270081

Hope this helps out!

Edit: OK after reading again, it looks like your doors lock automatically when you start driving off. This is normal and can be disabled.

To program the autolock feature:

1. Turn the ignition key to ON
2. Press the UNLOCK button 3 times
3. Turn the ignition key to OFF
4. Press the UNLOCK button 3 times
5. Turn the ignition key to ON, within 5 seconds press the LOCK button 1 time
Pressing the UNLOCK/LOCK button again will toggle the Autolock/Relock states.
6. Turn the ignition key to OFF to exit programming

Nag man. The chime just randomly goes off sometimes and the doors could be locked.
Every now and then the alarm would go off and the car would "lock itself" than attempt to relock. Even tho everything I'd already locked.

I'm guessing broken/damaged wire. Check my other post for good threads on fixing it!
