I have a 2000 ex. for 5yrs now. Last night my daughter moved it, in the driveway. Today I went to leave, and the key won't turn in the ignition. The steering wheel will move ( say from 12.30 to 11.30 ) so there is no pressure keeping it from unlocking. Also the shifter is solidly in park. I've had never had any problems with the truck before. I don't think that keys just suddenly go bad? Any help will do? If I need a new tumbler and key set, can I use the chip in the old key? If so How?
THANKS

Is the driveway on an incline? Try this: foot on brake, rock the key back and forth while jocking the shift lever to try and get it out of park. Then start it in neutral.

Thanks, It's not really on much of a incline, but I will put it up on jacks in the morning and see if that makes a differrence.

Is the key worn down? Maybe try turning repeatedly while pulling it in small increments out of the ignition? My key was worn down, and this worked until I had a new one made. Same for my Paseo.

All keys are this way or just one? If it's all of them, it's probably the cylinder. If it's just one, it's probably the key.

FIXED IT!!!! Called everyone and nobody had a clue. Then I called a locksmith, he told me to tap on the key in the ignition. Said that this happens alot, something inside the tumblers gets jamed up. And after lube the key up and place back in the ignition. Wala! Saved alot of money. Thanks.

key fix

Great advice. I was down to using my fob to open my door and only one key to turn the ignition. I did the tapping, but then I used WD40 in both locks. Man all the keys work great. I guess I need to change the fob battery on one. Thanks!
