Yesterday my key pad light went out. I use the feature frequently, always forgeting my keys to retrieve items in the vehicle.
I am hoping this is only a small bulb or diode in the keypad and doesn't mean the whole keypad needs replacing. Before ripping the door panel off I would like to know what I'm up against.
Does anybody have any knowledge or experience with this problem. Thanks in advance for your reply.

It's not worth replacing, IMO. I've heard you have to buy the whole unit and once you got it, you need to go through the trouble taking the unit out. I mean, since you're used to it, you should know which button is which.

I honestly didn't even know there is supposed to be a light under the keypad! I probably use the keypad 75% of the time I get in my truck and often it's in a pitch black parking lot. Usually I'll just hit a random button to get the dome light to go on..then it'll give me enough light to see where the keypad is and from there I'm all set. I'd say get used to it like I did....I don't know what I'm missing but it's nothing I'd spend a lot of money on.

If anyone is adventourous, the back of the keypad is easially accessable if you remove the door panel and pull back that thin noise lowering stuff ford sticks on the door.

The keypad is accessable easily enough, but once you fiddle with it once, it's never gonna go back in perfectly. I had to get my door repainted and even the Ford dealer couldn't get the pad back in without a little play in it. Sometimes things are better left alone.

Hmmm

Sounds a bit complicated, getting to it is no problem, but from the responses doesn't sound like it will go back properly. I'm pretty certain it will have a diode and not a bulb. Knowing Ford the unit will be sealed and the diode will not be replaceable. Can't see as well as I used to, so I might have to get a miniature flashlight attached to my key chain. Damn, what do I do when I lock the keys in the car which I've done? Maybe it's time to get some basic braille lessons.
Thanks for the responses guys.
