I'm planning on purchasing a set of the Q-logic Q-form kick panels for my 96 Explorer XL in the near future. i hear in order to make the installation work that the parking brake has to be bent out of the way. How does one go about doing this and how easy/hard is it to do?
Pull on the parking brake how? Have you bought the Q-form kick panels Godfather?
Are there any tools to help with this? Is there a way to remove to parking rake and bend it on a work bench? Do I have to remove any of the surround assembly in order to do bend it?
How about opinions from others on bending the parking brake? JTang? Jayson?
Hey the R - how were you able to remove the brake?
Hey NY, there are three bolts that attach the whole assembly to the sheet metal of the car. Those can be easily removed. Next, you need to unhook the ebrake cable from the assembly. Just pull on the cable and to get some slack and unhook the cylinder pin that is attached to the cable from the main assembly. Then you can remove the whole assembly and go to work. From here, you can try to bend it(Good Luck) or you can hacksaw it off and reweld it a couple of inches to the right. When you finally move the pedal over, make sure that it will not rake the kick panel. Then the fun begins. First, you need to put the cable pin cylinder back into its proper place on the brake assembly. I can't really describe how to do it, you just have to use trial and error, but it can be done. Then, just bolt it in and voila.
i know when i put the body lift on my friends 4runner the stickshift and trasnfer selectors had to be heat bent. take a small blow torch to the parking brake after removed and heat it and bend it wearing leather gloves, it doesn have to be melted, but when its hot it is pliable, when you get the desired amount of bend, stick it in a bucket of cold water and it will harden and cool pretty fast. if there is discoloration just spray it black with spray paint.
DONT BURN YOURSELF and DONT HEAT BEND WITHOUT REMOVING IT i dont wanna feel responsible for someone lighting thier interior on fire or nuking the fusebox
If you have the kind of parking brake arm that I have, you will not be able to just heat it and bend it. The arm is shaped like and "L" and looks like a scrabble piece holder. This design is not bendable. If you have just a straight brake arm, it should bend. Nonetheless, you will have to remove the whole assembly. Good Luck.
