The kick panels are handy if you have component speaker sets because they have a spot for the tweeter and midrange, they give a little better sound because they arent pointed as much at your feet and more towards your ears. id say go for the kick panels if you plan on buying component speaks and especially if you are going to amp them or compete in sound offs or shows cuz it adds the custom touch

I already have 1 component set in the doors/dash, I just want more. I need something to keep me awake on those 6 hour drives to college...Guess I'll go for it. Hopefully they will carry over to the 2001.

Kick panel installation is one of the most widely used applications in Car Audio competition. You might notice right now that if you listen carefully, the sound may seem louder on one ear than the other. This is due to the distances of the speakers from your leaft and right ears as well as where they are pointing. Kick panels try to even the distances out as best they can and position the speakers more effectively.

Usually center channel don't have to used in cars if the kick panels and speakers are tweaked properly. Once 5.1 become a true car audio thing, then we'll need 'em for sure! I don't know what's underneath our dashes, so I couldn't tell you if that would be a nice place or not. Right now, center channels are used to help cover sound "holes" where perhaps the left and right speaker placement won't cover.

For those Q-Logics, try www.mmxpress.com. Right now, they're selling them at $175 shipped. That's a bargain. If you want them soon, give me an e-mail, because I got an online e-mail from them where you can get them for $165 instead for a limited time.

Best Buy has them here for 100! I don't know, I might just make a pair.

For the center channel, what about mounted out top of the airvent on the dash?

The ones sold at Best Buy for $100 are generics that anyone can post in almost any car. The ones that people are normally referring to are those that are vehicle specific, so they'll most likely come in your stock interior color, and they will totally replace the existing kick panel area. I could be wrong, but I have seen the ones at Best Buy, and they don't usually carry specific models.

me and my friend custom made kick panels for his 69 stang and used a bowl and particle board and cut out the outline of his existing panels and then used fiberglass or bondo, bondo is easier after finding the desired basic shape it can be sanded and carpeted over and they look great and face component kappas toward the driver and it is loud as Fucl<
hell of a lot cheaper too
good luck

Hey there. I am pretty sure that you will not beable to put in 6x9's in the doors. The stock size of speakers in the doors are 6x8. There are some good 6x8 speakers out there. Good luck

Yeah, even if you were able to put a 6x9 in, if you haven't seen inside the door, there's a black plastic spacer that holds the speaker and sort of "points" it in a better position. Even so, I don't think that tiny bit of extra cone area is going to help much. Better just to look around and find better speakers that might sound even better, for a bit more money, though.

Hey all, I have the Q-logic kick panels in my 98 and they sound great, no rattle or other problems. But, installing them was a *****.

First, you have to move the parking brake over. I was told from someone at Ford, that the parking brakes from pre 98 1/2 explorers were bendable because they were made from a straight piece of metal design. Simply, like a straight piece of steel, that could be easily bent. But for some reason the 98 1/2 and up, the cut of date was march of 98, they went to a bent steel assembly. The parking brake leg instead of looking like a straight steel bar, looks like one of those holders in a Scrabble set, like an L. This is what I was told. Nonetheless, I had to remove the whole brake assembly, hacksaw the metal off, and reweld it with the proper distance so that it would not mash into the panel.

In retrospect, I might not have gone through with it, but I just had to have them. The reward is sweet, though. I have a pair of MB Quart 5 1/2s and they are sweet. They don't rattle or sound crappy. They are well worth the trouble. I got the panels for $130 from a special sale of some site that JTang referred.

I will send you some pictures of some custom one's I had made to hold a tweeter and 4.5" mid. The 6.5" goes in the door. I used a BA Pro 6.53 three way component set.

I was wondering if it is possible to attach those generic kick panels to the ceiling of your Explorer. I was thinking of putting them in the very back. Mount one in each corner. I have not seen the generic model so I am not sure if this idea would work. What does everyone think?
