I purchased the KKM intake for my 94xlt and i read that i should have to clean it about every 15,000 to 25,000 miles! SH*T i have to clean that thing every 4 to 8k miles! is there something i could do to reduce the amoust of dirt or something so i wont have to clean it as much? oh yeah the miles i drive are high way and city.

I suppose you could put a pre-filter on it. That negates some of the free flowing qualities though.

Is that like the wrap that K&N sells for their filters? I have heard those work pretty well.

i am not sure what k&n has cause they didn't have **** for me! lol i was thinkin about re-directing the air intake though! or placing a sheet metal cut out so that some of the dirt from the bottom end doesnt make its way up! think that would work?

Just throw an old pair of pantyhose over it. That will stop a lot of the dust and won't interfere with the air flow that much. Might look silly though. :p

Sheet metal might help some as well. Good idea. :)

thanks for the pantyhose idea! lol yeah i used to work for heating and air company and also delt with sheet metal! any who what about redirecting the air intake to the other side ! has any one did that?.

The pantyhose idea is not mine. Someone posted it a few days ago in regards to someone elses question.

There was someone who redirected their intake. I think it was under the name Home depot special. See if you can find anything searching. I don't really see the advantage of moving the intake. Unless you're planning on a double battery setup. In my X there is more of a gap in the fender well on the left side than on the right side. Just a couple thoughts.

what do you mean double battery? if i redirected the air intake it would be to get cooler air! but as i have noticed ford explorers have an issue with powersteering lines cracking and stuff!

I wonder how hard it would be to fit a Mach 1 air intake on an Explorer? You have the V8/V6 problem... That would free up a lot of room though. Don't know how much colder the air would be... Someone should try this! :)

Measure the IAT at various speeds and you will find it is within a degree or two of ambient at speeds over 40 MPH.
