I just replaced the edelbrocks on the front of my 94' 4x4 with KYB monomax's...what a difference!! I highly recommend them to anyone...and i also recommend against buying edelbrocks. I bought my edelbrocks about a year ago and was never very impressed with them, these KYB's however extremely impressed me, not too mention they were more reasonably priced than the edelbrocks (still not cheap, $50 a piece). I can't wait to swap out the rear's tomorrow! The truck really feels like a new truck!

I have never heard of these before. Do they have a website to check them out?
Can you describe in detail the differance between the 2 shocks? How long did you have the Edelbrocks on your truck, and is this in referance to just street driving or off road also?

KYB

www.kyb.com KYB is famous for their Gas-a-just shocks, which i had on my Z28, now gone :(,and loved. I was actually ordering a set of Koni adjustables and the guy at the shop told me to get those instead, they were about a third the price and he said they were better. Out of everything i did on my camaro's suspension, tubular trailing arms, pan hard rod, poly bushings, springs, subframe connectors, and sway bars, those KYB's made the biggest difference, so i thought i'd try the monomax's on my explorer. The monomax is basically a beefed up gas-a-just for trucks and suv's. I ordered mine through summit racing www.summitracing.com they had the best price i could find. You can look up the part number on KYB's website, then on summits, go to search by manufacturer and put that part number in. Compared to the edelbrocks there is less body roll..the shock adjusts for hard corning so it doesn't ride to stiff normally, they do feel just a tad firmer than the edelbrocks, but when you hit bumps you hardly feel them, yet when you corner hard it feels very firm. They just seem to soak up bumps and handle better than the edelbrocks. I do mostly street driving, just a little off-road here and there.

Bilstein

I have been researching these but its the first time I've actually heard from an owner. I think for the price (and finding a KYB dealer) Bilsteins are higher pressure and perhaps better? Its the same principle and I'm not knocking KYBs at all...just Bilsteins seem easier to find and are a top-quality shock...at least from the advertising :P

I don't know..i wish there was someone who's tried both...I just know i like them alot more than the edelbrocks. KYB's aren't very hard to find either..for example summit racing has nearly every application in stock and they have free shipping, I got mine in two days. I found plenty of places that carried them, summit was just the cheapest. I know of a ton of people who have used KYB's on sports cars, but you're right, i've only heard from one other pesron who's used them on an SUV. He used the gas-a-just's, which are about $30 a piece and was very happy with those as well. Well anyways, I'm happy, I feel like it was $200 well spent.

I've got the KYB Gas-A-Justs on my Explorer. It was a definite improvement over the shocks it had before. A tire/alignment guy who did my alignment recommended them to me. I did some reading and thought they sounded like some good shocks, so I got some. I like them. I felt like they firmed up the spongy ride that the truck had before. Made it feel more like a truck to me.
