Hi there,

So after posting how I don't want to invest anymore in to my truck as I want to move on to something else, I stand here (well... sitting actually) considering the replacement of my worn out shocks.

I am considering KYB becuase I found an online retailer in Canada (where I live) and they are selling them for about $30 a pop or somewhere in that ball park. At that price, and being located in Canada, it makes it very competitive with a RockAuto etc.

I am also thinking KYB because they're black.

So anyway, who is using them? What do you think? Anything you can tell me about them?

How do the compare to the stock ones which I have? Since they're an OE replacement , I am guessing similar?

Thanks

KYB are known to be good shocks. I'd say they're between Monroe and Bilstein. I don't personally run them and I can't think of anyone on here off the top of my head who does unfortunately.

I have KYB Gas-a-Justs on my other SUV and KYB struts. Decent quality. No idea on performance etc on Explorer.

just pulled an almost new set of KYB economy shocks off of the gf Eddie the ride was horrible soft and wobbly, you get what you pay for with these imho

I just put a set of Kybs (incl. 5th sway shock)gas adjusts on my '98 exploder. They are definitely stiffer than the stock set. But my ex stands at attention (no rear sag) and is ready for the frozen lake, or off road for trout season.

i have them on my EB (the Gas-Adjusts). i'm very happy with them. i find the ride to be firm, but not too firm. i'd put them above the Monroe's too. i will be putting them on my Mountaineer when the time comes.

KYB makes regular shocks and monotube shocks.
The regular ones (Excel-G) are nothing to brag about. Don't get excited by the price, they are probably equal or even worse than the OE shocks.

The good stuff are the monotubes - Gas-A-Just or MonoMax. For daily use I choose Gas-A-Just ones and they are great, better than the Monroe Sensatrac in my experience. They are white.

You think they're worse then a set of OE shock with about 200,000km on them? lol

Thanx, good to know!

They certainly weren't much better ... (I'm the gf with the Eddie who had the KYBs)
