My radiator started to leak at 40k and the dealer has ordered a new one. I understand there is a technical bulletin out but no recall. Does anyone know if Ford will help with the cost (over $500). thanks

Mind if I ask where it was leaking? Many thanks.

The radiator in my 07 started leaking before the 36/36 warranty was up, developed a small crack on the side i believe. The service manager told me that they were on back order as they had a "bunch" to replace. He indicated there was a QC issue with the supplier, which caused this. They had my ST for about 7-10 days last summer as they could not get a replacement radiator in for a few days, they provided a free loaner though.

The leak appears to be on the left side and low but I don't know just where. The service rep said that they had a few but getting a replacement was not a problem. I see that there is a TSB out on this problem but I have not found the site yet. I was told to keep all paperwork on the replacement in case there was a recall.

Interesting. My radiator started leaking around 42k miles and had to replaced as well. If I recall correctly, it was somewhere around $600. I did try to argue that 42k miles is way too low for the radiator to go bad; but I didn't get anywhere with the dealer and ended up having to pay the full amount.

2007 explorer sport trac leaking

I don't get it my radiator os leaking also and am forced to pay over $300 just for the part. Why won't Ford fix the problem they obviously created. Radiators should last a lot longer than a few years and 40,000 miles.

Radiator wasn't leaking but my thermostat housing was at 85K. Unable to get part from local parts store. Appears this is a known issue with 07's as dealer was not surprised. Cost me 4 benjamins for parts and labor at dealers...

Re: Technical Bulletin

"Technical service bulletin" (TSB) is a euphemism for a "hidden" recall. If the hidden recall could cause death or serious injury, the dealership will probably do the fix the next time you bring it in for service, and they won't tell you or put it on the service ticket. Other hidden recalls require you to be the proverbial squeaky wheel, and to keep complaining about the problem until they capitulate.

If the dealer you bought it from balks, go to another dealer. Car dealerships make a good portion of their money from service, and most will gladly play the hero in order to poach you and your service dollars from another dealer. Even if you want to stick with your home dealership, this tactic will still work, because the computer will show that you went to another dealer, so they may go the extra mile to get you back.

It's a game and you need to know how to play it. The car makers don't want to reimburse the dealer for recall work, and the dealer would rather have you pay for it, because they can charge you more than the manufacturer will. But neither want to lose you as a customer. Going to other dealers' service centers and (if you're a good actor) casually mentioning the competition's comparable model in the showroom can and often does bring managers out of the woodwork, willing and able to give you some special treatment.

Wow - Just got off another thread where the topic was a coolant leak - they talked about intake valve gaskets etc. I'm having the same problem with my 07, but I couldn't figure out where the leak is. I bought used at 57,000.00 miles and noticed the leak around 57.5. I have a 5y/150,000 Ext. Eng/PT, but doesn't look like the radiator's covered, and I was told $500.00 big ones to replace - if that's the problem. Leaks at front drivers side unless I'm leaning. Sounds like this is the problem - side of the radiator. "Crying"

please post a link for the intake valve gasket thread

Looks like we may have the same on our 06 Mountaineer V6. Leak is down near the bottom on the driver side. I can see it with a flashlight on the back side. I just started noticing a little yellow puddle on the garage floor. So you guys have all replaced yours? Think it is something that could be welded like on older radiators, or is it too much plastic?

If anyone needs a radiator for their 07 Sport Trac we carry them. There are two different ones depending on your OE number.

Yep cracked radiator on our 06 Mountaineer. I'm glad we bought the platinum extended warranty when we bought it used. Total bill was $500 to get it replaced, only cost me $100 deductible.

I have a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer and noticed my temp gauge fluctuating from very hot to cold a few times. I then started to notice a pool of fluid and realized it was a leak coming from the radiator. It appears to be on the driver's left side of the radiator. I just wanted to say thanks for all of these posts as one quote was around $1500 to replace. I had a feeling I was being taken advantage of. Now I KNOW I was being taken advantage of.

Radiator TSB

Where can I find the TSB for the radiator? I have a 2007 limited Sport Trac and my radiator now has a slow leak. I have 39k miles on it and I would like to try and have at least a part of this paid for by Ford.
