00 Excursion (THE BUS)
Came to Utah to visit family and now my tranny in the Excursion is leaking... I have the 6.8L V10... Fluid looks like its leaking from a black plug on the bottom, but not positive...

Anyone know much about trannys or know a good shop that won't screw me over just because I have an Idaho plate on my truck and they know I need to get home!!!

Could you post a picture of the part which is leaking? Is it just a drain plug? Check WWW.ATRA.Com for a certified transmission shop in your area. Those shops have to pay for an ATRA membership, so you will have some leverage with them against getting ripped off. There is a section on their website to file shop complaints.

I'm not stranded or anything... Actually my brother in law's neighbor is a mechanic so he has it right now... He said it should be done today... I'm hoping thats the case, we'll see... Hopefully he doesn't have to order the part and its readily availiable...

Said its probably either the tranny seal up front, pump seal or torque converter...
 






Got the truck back... Looks like it blew the torque convertor... Got a new heavy duty one and a new front seal kit... W/labor it was $500... In light of the situation I'm pleased with the outcome... He only charged me $200 in labor...

We can make some time... When do you want to go??? I'm here until Sunday morning... You working days right now or what???
 






How about on saturday( I work until 1pm). After that I have nothing, but I leave on sunday to go camping/hiking. Friday I drop someone at the airport at 7ish and tonight I work until 10 damn o clock
