I have a stock 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 auto trans 4X4.
When I am driving and I get the rpms up to a little over 2,500 I hear what sounds like lifter noise. But before I reach 2,500 it is not doing it.
Also when I am in park and revive the motor to that point and all the way to the revive limiter it makes no noise???????
I was thinking maybe one of the convertors my be stopping up but checked that and all checked in spec. I have also changed the plugs, plug wire and put some gas treatment in for the last 4 or 5 tanks and still no change.
The only other thing I can think of is maybe the engine has sludge build up or obstucting one of ports to the top end of the motor?? It has 115,000 miles and to be honest I used to not be on top of oil changes one time I went close to 25,000 mile on an oil change when it had around 60,000 miles on it before I remembered but sense then been close to 3-4,000 everytime. And the noise just started this a month or 2 ago.
Anyone got any ideas??
