My Explorer's hot/cold control on the dash stopped working. The little white box that is attached to it that switches from hot to cold seized up and no longer turns.

What's it called and where can I get one?

The numbers on the orange label are:
F87H-19E616-BA
R241 A09892
MAN

Any help would be greatly appreciated! It's getting cold here in CT and having the air randomly go cold stinks!!! And it's ridiculous to pay the extra $$ for a repair shop to play with it if my girlfriend's brother can put it in. Thanks

Let me know if you get it... :shifty_ey

You're in CT, change in plan, hold on a second...

Wait for a tech...

I missed what you said about the part seizing up... you should get a tech answer first before replacing the part... :salute:

Get it at any Ford dealer for about $50. It's called a Blend Door Actuator.

Sometimes the blend door itself sticks or the top breaks off. Are you sure it's the actuator (white box) that is seized?

Yeah, it's definitely the actuator. It used to not turn right so my brother would stick his hand in through the glove box and manually change it in the spring and winter. But this fall, my girlfriend's brother tried changing it and the thing to turn wouldn't turn at all. He took it out and it's definitely seized up.

BTW, I searched google this morning and how the heck can it be a 6 hour job to replace it when he got it out in about 15 minutes..and that was after playing around with everything else to see if that was the only problem??

Advice...

If what you found said 6 hours, I would have questioned the brother/law before he popped it off... Can you elaborate on the six hour info you found? Stay safe!

The six hours involved taking apart the whole dash board to get to it. There's room to get to it if you take off the golove box and reach in that way. There's instructions around this site to fix the broken blend door by going in through the golve box opening. Ford will only fix it by taking out the entire dash board.
