While fixing the gas gauge on my 04 XLS I found some tape over the ABS light under the overlay.

Got the code as c2769 Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor Circuit Failure

Basically what I got from talking to the dealer is either the yaw sensor is bad or the wiring to the yaw sensor is bad.

Any ideas on how to check it or should I let the dealer handle it?

Where is the sensor located anyways?

Thanks!

Interesting read but not very helpful when it comes to figuring out the issue. thanks tho.

No ideas to test, location of sensor, etc?

"On CAN vehicles, the longitudinal accelerometer will be mounted together with the lateral, roll rate and yaw sensor in what is called a sensor cluster."......"On Explorers, you’ll find the yaw/accelerometer sensor mounted on top the drive tunnel buried beneath the center console and some HVAC duct work as seen in the photo."

Well Having stripped the entire interior sans the heater box and swapping the dash I have yet to find the yaw sensor.

Still puzzled.

Nothing on the floor except the RCM aka Restraints Control Module from the heater box back to the tailgate.

Why would it give me a code for something it was never equipped with? Anyway to verify that it 100% for sure never had this option beside the lack of module under the seat?

Bad ABS module glitching out thinking it should have this option?

Sometimes I hate electronics.

Gen 3 XLS was entry level without a lot of bells and whistles available. I am pretty sure RSC, aka IVD, was not available in that trim level. And you have verified yours does not have it by confirming there is no RSC module under the rear seats or center console. The ABS system can throw phantom codes. That was what was seen in the thread I linked to.

How did you get the C2769 code? Any other codes show up? Does your ABS system function in hard braking on slippery surfaces?

Codes pulled on a coworker's snap on verus. no other codes.

Everything was fine till i found black tape over the abs light when i was fixing the needle on the gas gauge.

It will be tough to figure out with no other codes to point at a specific sensor or component. Can you reset the code with the Snap-On scanner? If the ABS is working correctly I would probably put the tape back over the lamp and check for other codes periodically.

Let us know.
