Hello, This is my first post on this forum. I am looking at a 1999 Explorer XLT 4.0 SOHC 5spd AUTO. Is there anything major I should be having a close look at before I decide to lay down the cash?
153000KM $8500Can

Thanks in advance

Mike

lot of cash for alot of miles...
wouln;t that be more money in the us or do i have that backwards...

Re

Heater, A/C Functions (blend door) ,rear wiper, radio display, rear defroster, to name a few common issues. I dont have any drivetrain issues, but i sure would give it a good lookover and a good test drive

Remember its really a four speed auto with an overdrive - though this does a similar job.

Check brake pads (I change my fronts every 10k) and discs (fronts every 20k), front suspension rattles. low speed abs activation on good surfaces, faulty electrics.

Does seem expensive though.

yeah, I dont know what the exchange is but I got my XLS with 95k last year for 7400 US.

8500 CAD = 6995 USD = 3700 GBP

For exchange rates try

www.xe.com

it's always up to date

98,000 miles for $7k. That's not bad if the truck is really nice.

Check to make sure the heater/AC works.. and that the motor sounds good.

also depends on where it was from.. i should have elaborated some more...

My 1995 had 120,000 miles on it when I bought it. that was almost 4 years ago so that was buying a 1995 in 2001 for $4600.00 and it is a 2 WD but the biggest thing that I realize now since I moved back up north is that it is A FLORIDA car and not a pin head of rust anywhere on the car...
I only paid just over $9000 for my 2002 4WD...
I guess that is what i based it all on..

I've had mine for about 4 years(90K mi), bought used, and only had the Overhead compass/temperature LED burn out, rear wiper motor 2xs, and YES, brake pads once a year! Don't forget the recall on the loud rattle when doing a cold start, can't remember what was replaced, but took mine in, still does it, but not as often. Something to do with lifters I think, anyone?

How soon do you want one? I might be able to get a 2000 Limited 5.0L with about 130,000km on it for around $10,000 (It's in Calgary too)

98 55k for 7 grand US i'd shop around... just my opinion

same thing i said especially since Explorers are a dime a dozen now and also with the gas high..
you should not pay alot for one now..
